Plumber in South West Sydney, from the Bankstown to Canterbury corridor
The Bankstown to Canterbury corridor is a fifteen to thirty minute run from Terry's base in Berala, and it is some of the oldest housing stock he works on, which means drains and original pipework are the bulk of the calls.
These suburbs were largely built out between the 1920s and the 1960s, and a lot of the drainage underneath them has never been replaced. Terry sees more root-blocked clay lines here than anywhere else in his service area. The established street trees that make Canterbury, Ashbury and Hurlstone Park pleasant to live in are the same trees sending roots into sixty year old earthenware joints.
Blocked drains are the bread and butter
Electric eel first for roots and solid blockages, high pressure jetter for grease and sludge, and a CCTV camera when it is worth knowing whether the pipe itself has failed rather than just clearing it and hoping. If the camera shows a collapsed section, Terry will tell you straight rather than booking you in for the same clear again in six months.
Unit blocks change the job
Campsie, Belmore and parts of Bankstown have a lot of walk-up unit blocks. Shared stacks, common property and strata boundaries make these different from a freestanding house, and Terry does not take on common property or strata work. For a unit owner with a problem inside their own lot, he is happy to help.
Hot water and gas across the corridor
Same as everywhere else he works: gas continuous flow, gas and electric storage, solar, repaired or replaced. Heat pumps serviced but not installed. One licensed tradesman doing both the plumbing and the gas side.

Plumbing in South West Sydney: common questions
- Which South West Sydney suburbs does Terry cover?
- Bankstown, Greenacre, Chullora, Belfield, Belmore, Campsie, Canterbury, Croydon Park, Enfield, Ashbury, Hurlstone Park and Earlwood. Most are a fifteen to thirty minute drive from his base in Berala.
- Why are blocked drains so common around Bankstown and Canterbury?
- Age and trees. Much of the housing dates from the 1920s to the 1960s and still runs on the original clay or earthenware drainage. Those joints crack with ground movement, and the mature street trees in these suburbs send roots straight into them. It is the single most common callout Terry gets in this corridor.
- Do you do strata or common property work?
- No. Terry does not take on strata or common property jobs. If you own a unit and the problem is inside your own lot, he can help. If it is a shared stack or common property, that needs to go through your strata manager and their contractor.
- How much does it cost to clear a blocked drain here?
- Most blocked drain jobs run somewhere around $150 to $350 depending on how bad the blockage is and how far down the line it sits. Terry quotes a fixed price before he starts. If a camera inspection shows the pipe has actually failed, he will price the repair separately so you can decide.
